The Blood Drive is so soon, it’s spooky, it’s this Friday! Blood donation is a simple four-step process: registration, medical history and mini-physical, donation and refreshments. Don’t forget to eat iron-rich foods, start drinking lots of fluids the night before, get a good night’s rest and eat a big breakfast and lunch on drive day and keep drinking water!! Remember to bring a photo ID!
Want to check off several items on the College Prep Challenge or the ACT Prep Challenge? Sign up for Northview’s ACT Prep Class brought to you by Mrs. Rhine, Mrs. Rauscher, Mr. Eckhart, and Mr. Roth.
The class is FREE and you will receive a copy of The REAL ACT prep book. The only catch is you have to have perfect attendance, otherwise $35 will be charged to your student account.
There are TWO sessions to choose from, both taking place before the December ACT test date.
There are a limited number of spots available, so get your order form and sign up now with Mrs. Ragland in the Main Office. The classes are first come first serve, with priority given to Seniors and Juniors.

QuizBowl: Your NV QuizCats scored their first victory Monday defeating the host Notre Dame Eagles a whopping 500 to 85! Northview was paced by team captain, Patrick Andres and with plenty of support of 2/3rds of the Burton triplets, Lucas and Zack and sophomore phenom Ben Gravelle. JV QuizCats also defeated Notre Dame, 185-170. Stop by G-5 after school on Monday, November 5 to watch the QuizCats host the Blue Devils of Springfield! Way to go Quiz Bowl!
Do you want some easy volunteer hours? Donate your gently used shoes, and ask friends and relatives for shoes they can donate, to benefit both people in developing nations and the sophomore class! You can receive up to 6 volunteer hours. Stop by Mrs. Blue’s room for details.
Congratulations to the Boys Soccer team for claiming their third consecutive District Championship with a 2-1 victory over Anthony Wayne. The Wildcats advance to the Regional Semi-Final TODAY against St. Francis at Lake High School. Kickoff is set for 7:00PM.
Lost and Found: Please check the lost and found it is overflowing with clothes, shoes/boots, lunch boxes, water bottles, agenda and school books/papers, a pair of gold prescription eyeglasses, and more. The Lost and Found is located in Mrs. Bohland’s office. Please look before or after school and between classes. All left overs will be donated to Goodwill if not claimed a day before our Thanksgiving break. Thank you

Any boys interested in trying out for boys basketball, tryouts begin Friday, November 2nd.
- Juniors and Seniors will tryout Nov. 2nd from 2:45-7:15 with a one hour break and Nov. 3rd from 12-2 in the main gym
- Sophomores will tryout Nov. 2nd from 4:30-6:30 and Nov. 3rd from 11-2 in the Aux gym.
- Freshmen will meet Nov. 2nd from 4:30-6:30, Nov. 3rd 9:30-11, and Nov. 5th 4:15-7:00 in the Aux gym

Good morning Cats, this is Mr. Swaggerty. I remember sitting in classrooms, much like you are at this very minute. I remember on occasion, a teacher would ask for a volunteer, and none of us would raise our hands with an answer, and the teacher would say to the class, “If no one volunteers, I am going to call on someone.” We can all relate to situations like that.
Service in the United States military is very much like the scenario I just described. Less than one half of one percent of our country’s population has volunteered to be actively enlisted. Those American citizens, raised their hand so the rest of us can continue to carry on with our lives with no disruptions. If voluntary enlistment numbers were not at a level that would protect our nation adequately, we would be compelled to serve through a draft. No choice. Name drawn. You’re in. The difference between real life and my silly analogy is that the only consequence we face in class by being forced to speak up in front of our peers is a little embarrassment. The 1.4 million active United States soldiers, serving all over the world on our behalf, are putting their lives in danger.
Each year, we tip our caps to Veterans on November 11th. This year, we, as an entire school community, are going to tip our caps, figuratively speaking, to a handful of soldiers. This Friday, November 2nd, during an extended Homeroom, we are going to write letters to a handful of people who raised their hand so that we did not, or will not have to. Each of us, students, teachers, principals, and staff included, will write a letter, expressing our appreciation to someone, a son, a daughter, someone with family, friends, and dreams they put on hold so that we can continue to pursue our own back here at home.
So, my question to you today, 2 days away from our letter writing campaign: what are you thankful for? What is it that you get to experience each day that would not be possible if no one had volunteered to take your spot on the front lines defending our way of life. What future plans do you have that someone else’s sacrifice is making possible?
Think about it. Bring a grateful heart and pencil to Homeroom Friday, and we will tip our caps to a handful of good people.
